Footnotes

Receipt of this letter is recorded in Heinrich’s diary for December 10, 1928: “Georg überbringt einen Brief von Mozio; er erklärt, das Geld bestimmt ausfolgen zu wollen; auch um Ueberstunden für Georg bittet er.” (“Georg brings me a letter from Mozio; he says that he definitely wants to hand over the money, and he also requests extra lessons for Georg.”). The request here actually concerns an examination, not extra lessons. — Where Moriz has inserted an emdash, a paragraph-break has been editorially inserted.

Writing of Heinrich’s non-surviving letter of November 28 is recorded in his diary for that date: “An Mozio (Br.): kündige das Geld für den 15. VI. u. 15. XII. 29; als Grund führe ich die politischen Zustände an, namentlich die Scheu vor Nachlaßverhandlungen, gleichviel, ob sie mit meinem oder seinem Tode zusammenhängen mögen.” (“To Mozio (letter): I request the money for June 15 and December 15, 1929; I give as a reason the political circumstances, in particular my fear of negotiations over my estate, regardless of whether they may be connected with my death or with his.”). See OJ 14/5, [26], May 18, 1929, further on this matter.

“der ... genommen” (“made … wish for”): underlined by Heinrich in crayon.

Moriz seems to have been out of work since May 1927 (see OJ 14/5, [22]), and now to have acquired a job no longer in finance. Note the absence of headed notepaper.

This whole paragraph is sidelined in left margin by Heinrich.
