Mit Hob. habe ich nach Handschriften nachstehende Werke durchgearbeitet: Chopin, Mazurken (10-12 Stück), Ballade g^m , Scherzo E^d ; Brahms, op. 117^I-III ; Haydn, Son. Es^d , 1. Satz, mit Hinblick auf eine etwaige Publikation – ich sage: etwaige, weil die Absicht bald kräftiger, bald schwächer hervortritt, also bis heute noch schwankend ist. Daß er an andere Stücke dächte, die er mit mir noch nicht durchgieng, möchte ich nicht annehmen. –

Der Fall Furtw. ist wirklich schwierig, hierher scheint er nicht mehr zu kommen, trotzdem er die Reise ausführt, von der er sprach. Simon Goldberg ist nicht mehr sein Konzertmeister. –Am 3ten/9 {recto} gehen wir von hier ab, zunächst für paar Tage nach Salzburg (wegen Überganges), dann nach Hause.

I have worked through the following pieces with Hoboken with manuscripts: Chopin, Mazurkas (10-12 numbers), Ballade in G minor, Scherzo in E major; Brahms, Op. 117 Nos 1-3; Haydn, Sonata in Eę major, first movement, with a view toward a possible publication ‒ I say: possible, because the intent emerges now stronger, now weaker, so up to now it is still in a state of vacillation. I cannot assume that he is thinking of other pieces that he has not yet worked through with me. —

The case of Furtwängler is really difficult; he seems no longer to come here, despite the fact that he does make the journey of which he spoke. Simon Goldberg is no longer his concert-master. — On September 3 {recto} we leave here, first to Salzburg for a few days (en route), then home[.]
