begnüge ich mich heute blos damit, Ihren Standpunkt einfach als
unzutreffend zu bezeichnen. In der Pflicht gegenüber
meinem eigenen Werk lasse ich mich doch gar nichts in der Welt beirren!
Auf das Meritorische Ihrer Anschauung werde ich also
erst nach Fertigstellung des Werkes zurückkommen, doch wage ich schon heute vorauszusagen,
daß Sie sich seinerzeit über Ihren eigenen Brief mehr selbst entrüsten werden, als ich es
heute tun!

I will content myself today with saying just that I consider your point of view to be
simply unfounded. In my duty toward my own work I do not
allow anything whatsoever to distract me.
I shall not be able to turn my mind to the merits of
your view until after completion of the work, but I venture to predict here and now that you
yourself in due course will be more indignant at your own letter than I am today!
