Weg durch die Via Balbi: schöne Paläste, viel Volk auf den Straßen, geputzte Menschen, geschminkte kleine Leute – wie bei uns z’haus’[.] — Im Hotel gespeist, blaß, „international“, — Sechs Karten geschrieben: Weil, Paul, Deutsch, Vrieslander, Oppel, D^r. Lanzer. — Um ½3^h Rundfahrt: für L. 18 genau drei Stunden; ¹ der ganz gut unterrechtete Führer zeigt, wozu der Fremde suchend {5} u. allein mehrere Tage brauchen würde: Den reichen romanischen Dom, auf den mich auch Prof. Fuchs aufmerksam gemacht hatte, den Friedhof – die naturalistischen Grabmale. — Im Wagen eine Deutsche, vielleicht eine Beamten auf Urlaub, war 14 Tage in St. Remo. Die übrigen Teilnehmer der Fahrt eine Reisegesellschaft aus München – unter Mittelmaß. Der Blick von Rhigi [recte Chigi] nicht ganz offen, aber gerade in dem claire obscure sehr reizvoll. Nehme mit der Dame zusammen oben die Jause, sie empfehlt sich sehr artig. Ich bin etwas abgespannt, beschäftige mich häuslich.

A stroll along the via Balbi: beautiful palaces, many people on the streets, well-groomed persons, youth who have been made up – as they are at home. — Lunch at the hotel: bland, “international.” Six postcards written: to Weil, Paul, Deutsch, Vrieslander, Oppel, and Dr. Lanzer. — At half past 2, a round trip: 18 lire for a full three hours. ¹ The thoroughly informed guide showed us places for which a tourist searching on his own would {5} need several days: the ornate Romanesque cathedral, to which Professor Fuchs also called my attention, the cemetery, with the naturalistic gravestones! — There was a German woman in the car, perhaps an official on holiday, who had been in St. Remo for two weeks. The other participants on the trip were a group of tourists from Munich – below average. The view from Rhigi [recte Chigi] was not completely clear, but very charming precisely in its chiaroscuro. I have afternoon snack with the lady; she has beautiful manners. I am somewhat exhausted and occupy myself with domestic matters.
