OJ 14/5, [28] - Handwritten letter from Moriz Schenker to Heinrich Schenker, dated December 26, 1929

Zur Abwechslung meine besten Wünsche zu allen Festen, Amen! Leider konnte ich diese Woche nicht kommen, weil ich Rumänen in Wien habe. Am 31./12 habe ich leider die Quälereien mit der Scheidung beim Gericht, eine Sache, welche viel, viel Nerven kostet. Am 1/1 fahre ich nach Reichraming, und am 2/1 wahrscheinlich nach Berlin für einige Tage, so dass ich erst dann Euch besuchen kann. Schon jetzt möchte ich Dir mitteilen, dass ich einerseits wegen einer Hypothek und auf der anderen Seite das mit dem Erzbisstum Wien wegen Verkaufes des Gutes verhandle. 2 Ich bitte Dich also nicht beunruhigt zu sein, dass ich werde so bald als nur möglich Euch den Rest 3 {2} bringen. Wenn nicht so schwere Zeiten wären, hätte ich schon längst das Gut verkauft, um all‘ dich Sorgen vom Halse zu haben. Ich hoffe aber, dass es mir doch gelingen wird, bald die Sache zu erledigen. © Transcription Ian Bent, 2023 |
For a change, my best wishes for all festivities, Amen! Sadly, I could not come this week because I have Rumanians in Vienna. On December 31, I have, sadly, the ordeals of the divorce in court – something that has cost many, many nervous attacks. On January 1, I go to Reichraming, and on January 2 probably on to Berlin for a few days, so that only then can I visit you. I should like to tell you now that I am negotiating on the one hand regarding a mortgage, and on the other with the Archdiocese of Vienna regarding the sale of the property. 2 I beg you therefore not to be in any doubt that I will as soon as possible be bringing you the balance. 3 {2} If times were not so hard, I would long ago have sold the property in order to relieve all of you of the worry. But I hope that I really will succeed soon in settling the matter. © Translation Ian Bent, 2023 |
